Paul... he's my Homie..

Seriously, Paul is definitely the 2nd coolest guy in the Bible, hands down (Jesus outranks all, got it?) . He has such a handle on how BIG and LOVING God is, and how trivial all things are on Earth. Whenever I start to feel like the world is caving in on me or like I'm sinking in quicksand, slowly-- with no help out... I read my Bible and quickly realize how small I am, and how I have the greatest Father in Heaven who will guide me and help me and all I have to do is ASK. I mean, woah.. that in and of itself just blows my mind.

I pray until I fall asleep. Brian often works graveyards and I've gotten pretty good at praying to keep my mind off the fact that it's dark, quiet, scary and lonely. It completely changes my train of thought and instantly makes me forget that I'm alone. As I'm praying, I never run out of things to pray about... my family, my kids, health, stability, etc.. And I often wake up with an urgency to one or more of my prayers. I've had God answer my prayers instantly, I've had him take months, days, or instantly in the morning.

A few days ago, I have to admit, I was a worried WRECK. You see, I'm one of those people that "knows" God is in control and will protect me, but sometimes "forgets". I'm not proud of that, it just happens to be one of my shortcomings I'm trying to work through. Anyway, I was worried about the possibility of our country bottoming out, selling it's land to China and going through serious famines, wars, and martial laws.

Anyway, so I'm reading Revelation with Brian (he's reading, I'm driving lol) and it's like a light bulb went off. As he's reading he is reading the notes below the scriptures in my study Bible and flipping around reading those parts that are referred to below). I can't remember the exact verse (I'm horrible and remembering verses... I have started writing them at the top of my Chore list every morning so I can at least try to remember one a week! How sad is that? LOL) anyway, Paul is writing to the Corinthians saying something to the effect of "Your suffering is short lived, for life here on Earth is so temporary, you shouldn't worry about the crap going on around you, put your faith in God and you're cool." (LOL!!! I KNOW, Paul totally talked like a teenage boy, duh?) Suddenly, I'm blasted to the video Lou Giglio made about God's INCREDIBLE vastness... and at that moment I felt like a pebble in sand... my whole world and all my "problems" seemed so trivial, so small, so pointless to worry about. So, though I am still a worrier at heart, I am going to do my best to ignore that tugging of my insides that makes more freak out about the future of my kids in this broken world, and lay my worries at my Father in Heaven's feet and wash my hands of it. Sure, it's easier said than done, but this is my task, and with God's help I can do it. HE is my strength... and with Him on my side, who can be against me? :)

Snowboarding!!

Brian and I went snowboarding last Saturday. Brian's mom spent time with the kiddos all day while we drove up to Santa Fe Ski Mountains and hit the slopes! However, it wasn't the smoothest snowboarding trip we've had.

We haven't been snowboarding in 2 years, though it's one of the only sports/activities Brian and I both LOVE. The winter before last I was nursing a 6 month old and just found out I was pregnant (AGAIN). Then the following year I had a newborn baby I was nursing as well. So this year we were finally able to go!

It started off probably the worst way possible. The ski lift we usually would get on now had a conveyor belt below it to "help". It was VERY busy, so we were getting on with 2 other teenage boys on the seat. The lift is VERY fast and whips around, as soon as the people in front of you sit down you are to get in front of your seat as FAST as possible. As Brian and I did this, the 2 teenage boys that were getting on with us pushed ME over, so I pushed Brian over, our boards got tangles, the teenage boys got tangled and BAM we all fell down as the lift RAN us over. As this happened, all 204 lbs of my husband landed SQUARE on top of me as I laid on my back.

As soon as I was able to somewhat regain my composure, I feel the utterly unmistakable feeling... I hit my knee. On what, I did not know.. I could only imagine the worst as flashbacks of my dangling knee and horrendous knee surgery after I tore my ACL, LCL and meniscus in Cheerleading... the weeks of feeling like I was dead in a bed, my leg rotating in a medical contraption that was supposed to aid my healing and flexibility, it hurt like hell set up shop in my knee. Following the mind bending pain I went through, after nearly dying from an allergic reaction to the anethstetic, not breathing for 3 minutes and on the verge of death in my mother's arms, and the months of knee therapy the enabled me to walk normally... All I could do was cling to the pain and pray that it wasn't what I feared - a bum knee for the second time.. and of course, the SAME knee as before.

So... after shutting the lift down for a good 5 minutes, they moved me out of the way and on to a stretcher. They took me to the Ski Medics office and we filled out a TON of paperwork as I iced my knee.

Thankfully, it was only a seriously bruised patella and a nice gash on top. Well, it was the first lift we had gotten on. We just paid $116 for me to fall on my back and get run over.. and with absolutely no refunds allowed, I wasn't about to throw that money down the drain without SOME sort of snowboarding!! So I iced it. Walked around, and decided to head up the mountain again and see how I do.

We took a smaller lift up, which only seated 2 and wasn't so fast. I was nervous getting on after what had happened before, but once we were safely on, it was fairly easy getting comfortable again!

We did great, Brian and I both were getting our carving figured out... we were trying to master that 2 years ago before our parenting hiatus.

I hit my knee again by landing on it and only did one more run after that, it was just too sore to do much more. All in all, we had a great day and a lot of fun together!

The kids weren't feeling well at Brian's mom's house, so I felt bad hearing that I wasn't able to nurse them all day, but thankfully they bounced back the next day and felt much better.

We are worried about "the cow" when it is all about the "Ice Cream."

The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching third

grade this year. The presidential election was heating up and some of the

children showed an interest. I decided we would have an election for a

class president.

We would choose our nominees. They would make a campaign speech

and the class would vote.

To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members.

We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have.

We go many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia were picked

to run for the top spot.

The class had done a great job in their selections. Both candidates were

good kids. I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of

parental support. I had never seen Olivia's mother.

The day arrived when they were to make their speeches Jamie went first.

He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place. He ended

by promising to do his very best. Every one applauded. He sat down and

Olivia came to the podium.

Her speech was concise. She said, "If you will vote for me, I will give

you ice cream." She sat down. The class went wild. "Yes! Yes! We want ice

cream."

She surely would say more. She did not have to. A discussion followed. How

did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She wasn't sure. Would her parents

buy it or would the class pay for it. She didn't know. The class really

didn't care. All they were thinking about was ice cream.

Jamie was forgotten. Olivia won by a land slide.

Every time Barack Obama opens his mouth he offers ice cream and sixty

percent of the people react like nine year olds. They want ice cream. The

other forty percent know they're going to have to feed the cow and clean

up the mess.

Why I vote Democrat

If you only read what you want to read, only see what you want to see,
and only hear what you want to hear, you will only know what you want to
know.




1. I'm voting Democrat because: I believe the government will do a
better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

2. I'm voting Democrat because: I believe three or four pointy headed
elitist liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days
to suit some fringe kooks who would NEVER get their agendas past the
voters.

3. I'm voting Democrat because: I believe oil companies' profits of 6%
on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon
of gas at 15% isn't.

4. I'm voting Democrat because: I believe that paying $4.00 a gallon or
more is no reason to drill for the mountain of oil we are sitting on in
THIS country. We wouldn't want to have to move a couple of Caribou, now
would we?

5. I'm voting Democrat because: when we immediately pull out of Iraq , I
believe the bad guys won't follow us home. I trust that the bad guys
will stop what they're doing because they now think we're good people.

6. I'm voting Democrat because: freedom of speech is fine as long as
nobody is offended by it.

7. I'm voting Democrat because: I love the fact that I can now marry
whatever I want.

8. I'm voting Democrat because: I'm not concerned about the slaughter of
millions of babies so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

9. I'm voting Democrat because: I believe that when the terrorists don't
have to hide from us over there, and they come over here, I don't want
to have any guns in the house to fight them off with.

10. I'm voting Democrat because: I believe that churches should only be
allowed for pol itical speeches, and any mention of GOD should not leave
the Church door .

11. I'm voting Democrat because: I believe that business should not be
allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give
the rest away to the employees.

12. I'm voting Democrat because: I believe that I don't want Doctors who
were at the top of their class to operate on me. I want a government
employee who makes $50k a year and finished in the bottom 2% of his class.

13. I'm voting Democrat because: I believe that people who can't tell us
if it will rain on Friday, CAN tell us that the polar ice caps will
melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius and turn off my
air conditioning.

14. I'm voting Democrat because: I REALLY believe there is no bias in
the media.

Our Date/Resolution!

Yesterday Brian and I went on a date!

Brian's mom came over to visit the kids while we went on a date. I think that went better than I had expected. The kids seemed to really enjoy her and she played with them, which they love.

So Brian and I went to see "Four Christmases," it was cute! I think we both really liked it. We split some popcorn and a sprite...

After the movie we went "our" restaurant... Japengo. They have the BEST sushi! And it's right across from the movie theater, we had a great time!! I got my favorite, Philadelphia rolls and California rolls and Brian got Calamari Tempura rolls and California rolls. I love their mi so soup too, it was delish.

So, this goes hand in hand with out "resolution." We're really making the effort to "court" again. We want to really show each other that they are the most important person to us, and so we're starting to do things we used to do when we were dating. Like, for example, when we were dating Brian lived in the apartment next to ours, so I'd wake up at 6 AM when he was headed to work to go give him a kiss before work, even thought I didn't have to be up for another hour. So, when he comes home from work I've been going to the door to kiss him, something that seemed to stop happening a long the road. We're going to make it a priority to spend quality time together and Brian's going to work on being more chivalrous. :) Well.. that's all!
